It’s A Thing 1.10.20

  1. Colby has his two-month appointment next week and I am very excited for him to get his shots so that I’ll feel a little more comfortable taking him out in public knowing he’s protected. We’ve been doing lots of tummy time and I love this beautiful handmade quilt we got as a shower gift and this line of high contrast books. img_2752
  2. I think this product is very silly but I am sure tons of beer-loving new moms pay top dollar to drink the breastfeeding supportive brew.
  3. In my ever-present journey to find deals for shopping, I found this site for buying gift cards at a discount. Very excited to add this to my list of hacks for online shopping.
  4. I don’t imagine that I’ll be able to go to very many events or get a lot of perks this year, but I am thrilled to be joining the ranks of Yelp Elite for the 7th year running! Hopefully, I’ll find the time to review some new spots I’ll be checking out as a new parent in LA. There is a whole new world of places for me to check out!
  5. We are trying out a bunch of different kinds of diapers on a big search to find one that we like that’s also cost-efficient. This month we’ve been trying Dyper after taking advantage of a new year deal – one month of diapers for $20.20. They seem to have first time sign up deals often and we like the diapers so far!

  1. I’m soaking up my last few hours of New England winter and spending time with my east coast family. Ernie and I leave tomorrow to return to LA and we’re looking at a 7-hour flight… just the two of us… me. and a baby. for. seven. hours. Please send all your good vibes. img_9042-1
  2. This is late for the holiday season, but I so thoroughly enjoyed the “A Thing or Two” gift guides (part 1 and part 2). I’m excited to see where Claire and Erica go now that Of A Kind has shuttered and am definitely planning on supporting them as a podcast listener going forward. I also just read their book, ‘Work Wife,’ and loved the anecdotes from so many great female teams.
  3. It feels like everything I read on the internet these days is about child-rearing. Some standouts of recent: ways to talk to toddlers that reflect in their school aptitude, how to talk to kids about sexuality (via Stella and her husband), and working moms weighing the pros and cons of a second child.
  4. With the new year only slightly behind us, resolutions are still fresh on my mind. I don’t know if I’ll have a particular goal or intention for the year, but I definitely appreciated this read on “the lazy person’s guide to self-improvement.”
  5. Speaking of resolutions, I had been considering some no-spend challenges but really liked She Picks Up Pennies’ perspective on them especially with a young child. The intention behind it can be all well and good, but there are so many things that pop up with a baby or toddler in tow, that feeling grief for spending when you truly need to isn’t something I wanted to saddle myself within these still early days of motherhood. The search for a 2020 resolution of sorts continues!
