30 Things I’m Adding to My Bucket List Upon Turning 30

I turn 30 today! It simultaneously feels like a very big milestone, and also like a very small one when I think about the fact that I’m also now just under 6 weeks away from my due date with Baby Beep. I’ve never been a super big birthday person, but I have found myself surrounded by friends and family that really dig celebrating, so I usually get talked into some sort of marking of the occasion. This year I opted for a hillside picnic on Saturday (gotta love LA for weather that lets us do that, while my family in New Hampshire is still buried under a few feet of snow!) to keep things low-key but still satisfying the celebratory aspect.

Beyond that, though, I wanted to celebrate in another, more personal way, by adding some things to my bucket list. I first started my bucket list during my freshman year of college. At that point the list was around 30 or 35 things long, and I’ve slowly added new items to it as they’ve occurred to me (or as I’ve accomplished them!) and now it’s at 58. With 30 years under my belt, it felt appropriate to add 30 more things to the list! Here’s what’s been added:

  1. Fly in first class.
  2. Taste a scotch that is older than me.
  3. Learn to change the oil in my car.
  4. Travel to Antarctica. (inspired by Adventurous Kate)
  5. Grow broccoli in our garden.
  6. Build and publish the ‘Shop’ page for Are We Adults Yet.
  7. Make $100(+!) per month from the blog.
  8. Take a road trip with Baby Beep.
  9. Travel internationally with Beep.
  10. Make a quilt.
  11. Build an application outside of work.
  12. Give a tech talk at a conference.
  13. Live outside of California for at least two years.
  14. Get moving expenses covered by a job offer.
  15. Join a parents group.
  16. Take a month-long social media break.
  17. Take a month-long eating out break.
  18. Get a will in order.
  19. Try daily meditating for a month.
  20. Read 100 books in a year.
  21. Go on a kid(s)-free vacation with my husband.
  22. Go on a yoga retreat.
  23. Ride in a hot air balloon.
  24. Pay for a table of strangers’ meal.
  25. Start a 529b.
  26. Throw a first birthday party.
  27. Build a deck at our house.
  28. Get 10,000 steps every day for 100 days.
  29. Officiate a wedding,
  30. Run at least one mile every day for a year.

Anyone else have a milestone birthday this year? Do you have a bucket list you check in on every year? What’s on it?? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Happy belated birthday! I have a milestone birthday this year but it is way more than 30! I love your list, especially drinking the scotch older than you.

Let us know what you think!
